Now, after you have entered the sites you want blocked. Test it out; go to their site and see if it loads up. If not, then you're in business! If it doesn't work, try double checking your entry. In some cases, a reboot is in order. If you don't want to add every single entry by yourself, you may download Stephen Martin's list here. His list contains over 12,800 servers, but they are all tailored to his needs. You may go in and edit it later.

If you want to disable the Hosts, you may rename it to something else or add an extension to it. You can do this in two ways. The first is to navigate explorer to get to the file and manually rename it. Or, you can use the command prompt (dos) to do the same. Here is an example of using the command prompt:

1. cd c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
2. rename hosts hosts.txt

Now, if you want to reenable it, just undo what you did. Rename the file back to what it originally was.
