The Apple Power Macintosh G4/400, based on the Yikes! architecture (Sawtooth after December 2, 1999 1.), features a 400 MHz PowerPC 7400 (G4) processor with the AltiVec "Velocity Engine" vector processing unit and 1 MB of backside cache, 64 MB or 128 MB of RAM, a 10.0 or 20.0 GB Ultra ATA/33 hard drive (Ultra ATA/66 after December 2, 1999), and an ATI Rage 128 AGP/2X video card (Rage 128 Pro after December 2, 1999) with 16 MB of SDRAM, in a translucent graphite and white tower case with a fold down door on the side that makes upgrading very easy. The Apple Power Macintosh G4/500 Cube features a 500 MHz PowerPC 7400 (G4) processor with the AltiVec "Velocity Engine" vector processing unit and 1 MB of backside cache, 64 MB or 256 MB of RAM, a 20.0 GB or 40.0 GB (5400 RPM) Ultra ATA/66 hard drive, and an ATI Rage 128 Pro (AGP 2X) or ATI Radeon (AGP 2X) video card with 16 MB of SDRAM, in an ultracompact 8" cube design. For easy upgrading, the interior housing of the cube slides out from the bottom, providing access to internal components. This model ships with an excellent "Pro" keyboard and optical mouse. The Apple Power Macintosh G4/733 QS, dubbed "Quicksilver" for its revised case design, features a 733 MHz PowerPC 7450 (G4) processor with the AltiVec "Velocity Engine" vector processing unit and a 256k level 2 on-chip cache, 128 MB of PC133 SDRAM, a 40.0 GB (5200 RPM) Ultra ATA/66 hard drive, a CD-RW drive, an NVIDIA GeForce2 MX (AGP 4X) video card with 32 MB of SDRAM, and a digital audio sound system with a highly-efficient Tripath "Class T" amplifier in a translucent silver and white tower case with a fold down door on the side that makes upgrading very easy. The Apple Power
Macintosh G4/1.25 DP MDD, dubbed the "Mirrored Drive Doors" or
"Wind Tunnel" model(s) and based on the architecture used by the
Xserve, features dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC 7455 (G4) processors, both with AltiVec
"Velocity Engine" vector processing units, 256k level 2 on-chip
caches and 2 MB level 3 backside caches. In addition, this model ships with
512 MB of PC2700 DDR SDRAM (256 MB after January 28, 2003), a 120.0 GB (7200
RPM) Ultra ATA/100 hard drive ( 80.0 GB after January 28, 2003), a 2X/6X/8X/4X/24X
SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW) (a 12X/32X/10X/32X DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo Drive after
January 28, 2003), an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (AGP 4X) video card with 64 MB
of DDR SDRAM, a digital audio sound system with a highly-efficient Tripath
"Class T" amplifier. After January 28, 2003, this system also
sports a FireWire "800" port, and support for AirPort Extreme
(802.11g) and Bluetooth 1.1 with optional cards. The case is similar to
earlier Power Macintosh G4 models, and has the same fold down door on the
side that makes upgrading very easy, but also sports decorative indentions
on the front reminiscent of the "Ventiports" on a 1949 Buick Roadmaster
and two "mirrored finish" external drive bays. This model ships
with the Apple "Pro" keyboard and optical mouse. Custom configurations
are also available. |
